Clarence Eugene "Gene" Bruner, 81, of Chiefland, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016.
Gene was born in Dothan, Ala. Sept. 27, 1934 to Clarence Lee and Hazel Bruner.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years in 1957. He worked for the U.S. Forestry Service for 30 years operating heavy equipment and occasionally fighting fires, even the big forest fires out west, when the need arose.

He then, along with Ma Clyatt, developed a passion for eating out and finding the best restaurants to eat at. He also enjoyed a trip to the Smoky Mountains every now and then. He was a true gentleman, honest, trustworthy and loved to do thing for others. He was a member of Chiefland First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his companion of 20 years, Madras Clyatt of Chiefland; daughters, Brenda (Jim) Bruner White of Ocala and Tammi Clyatt of Chiefland; brothers, Lowell Bruner, Billy Bruner and Ronnie (Rhonda) Bruner, all of Ocala; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a niece and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held at Langford Rogers Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, April 7 at 11 a.m with Pastor Gordon Keller officiating. Interment will follow at Chiefland Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Gene was truly a gentleman. He had a knack for always making the person he was talking to feel important. Over the
past several years I have had occasion to share a number of meals and have many one on one conversations. He was very interesting to talk with and we shared some funny stories, views on the taboo subjects of Politics and Religion. He was a person who was always interested in and inquiring about the welfare of others. He was a godly man and prayed beautiful heartfelt prayers. He was a great friend and close confidant to Ma. Clyatt. He will truly be missed by his family, friends and acquaintances. I personally will miss those good talks and hearing him pray at meal time. I saw him in great pain recently but now he is where there is no pain and no tears - at home in Heaven.
