Gene Howard Mercer, 79, of Williston, died Oct. 2, 2012 in Ocala.
He moved to the Williston area 45 years ago from Irvin. He was of Christian faith.
He worked as a cowhand for many years. He was a member of the Cattlemen's Association, the Williston High School Rodeo Association and the P.R.C.A. He enjoyed working cows, fishing, and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by son, Dennis (Shelia) Mercer; brother, Olin (Nina) Mercer; sister-in-law, Ella Mercer; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, as well as helping raise Rusty Byrd and Terry Miller.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Francis Mercer and son, Glen "Pee Wee" Mercer.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 11 at Knauff Funeral Home- Williston with the Rev. Allan Miller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. The family asks that only live plants be sent. Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home- Williston.
