Jack E. Spillane passed peacefully in his home in Orlando March 7 surrounded by friends and family.
A native of Chiefland, Jack graduated from Florida State University and became a CPA. He built a successful public accounting practice and later merged with Deloitte and Touche.
After leaving the accounting field, he developed an interest in wetland mitigation and was a founding member of the Florida Association of Mitigation Bankers where he served on the board. His love for Florida's pristine wetlands led to many successful mitigation bank ventures.
Jack was a charter member of the South Seminole Chamber of Commerce and was active in the JAYCEE's. Jack was a passionate mentor and benefactor to many young people.
One of his proudest accomplishments was being able to use his expertise and experience to develop talent for future generations. Jack's favorite saying was "what's good for the goose is good for the gander," and his legacy of fairness in life and in business is testimony to his simple mantra.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Spillane.
He is survived by his mother, Artha M. Spillane of Chiefland; sister, Albajean Owen of Chiefland; son, Keith D. Spillane of Orlando; daughter, Teresa Fernandez of Asheville, N.C. and business partner and friend, Monika Kosc of Orlando.
Funeral services are Monday, March 11 at 1 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Chiefland with interment at Ebenezer Church Cemetery.
