Jerry Hammond, 67, passed away Sunday, March 13 at his home after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jerry was born to Thomas Alva Hammond and Ellen Mayfield Curry of Elizabeth City, N.C., on Oct. 23, 1948.
Before moving to Bronson, Jerry lived in Homestead where he was known as one of the best little league coaches around. Jerry worked for 25 years as a plant manager for Chevron Oil Distributors in Homestead and Gainesville. As a second career, he become a certified Air Conditioning Technician.
Jerry was known for his ability to fix most anything and helped anyone in need.
Although Jerry was semi-retired, he was always busy. If he wasn't doing odd jobs, he was caring for one of his grandchildren as "Papa Daycare" when needed.
Jerry also loved his tractor. It wasn't uncommon to see him driving it around Bronson.
Those who knew Jerry said he was a true friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand. They always mentioned how proud he was of his family and how he spoke of their accomplishments while enjoying his daily coffee with "the breakfast club" at A&A.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, his mother and his sister, Pamela.
He is survived by his wife, Robin, sons, Thomas and Jeffrey; daughters, Crystal and Nicole; sisters, Linda, Gayle and Lisa; five grandsons, Micah, Jeffrey, Noah, Colton, and Austin, and five granddaughters, Tori, Kori, Shelbi, Kennedi and Audrey.
A memorial will be held on Sunday, March 20 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Bronson. In honor of all of those who have been affected by pancreatic cancer, we encourage you to wear purple to show your support.
