James Grandstaff Obituary

James H. "Whitey" Grandstaff

CHILLICOTHE: James H. "Whitey" Grandstaff, of Chillicothe, died 5:40 pm, February 14, 2013, at the VA Medical Center, Chillicothe, following an extended illness.

He was born October 10, 1936, in Pike Co., OH to the late Oscar and Mae Grandstaff. On June 6, 1965 he married the late Carolyn S. Vandergriff, who died January 15, 2013.

Surviving are his children, Betty Jo Grandstaff, of Chillicothe; Terry Allen and Jessica Lynn Grandstaff, both at home; his grandchildren, Heather and Ryan Rose and Timothy Lowery; and a great-grandchild, Thomas Rose. He was preceded in death by his brother, Oscar "June" Grandstaff and a sister, Dorothy "Pete" Stafford.

Mr. Grandstaff was a US Army veteran and had retired from the Mead Corporation. He was a member of the Civil Defense, Junior Civic League Follies, Chillicothe High School Band Boosters, Chillicothe Civic Theater, and was a HAMM radio operator. He enjoyed being the lightening bug for the CHS Band.

Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will be held 11:00am Thursday, March 7, in the Grandview Cemetery.

I will always remember Jim running about to help the CHS band while wearing those flashing arm lights. He will be missed.
