Cyrus, William  
William L. Cyrus, Sr. CHILLICOTHE: William Lacy Cyrus, Sr., 87, of Chillicothe, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, September 1, 2015, at the Adena Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on October 5, 1927, to the late Eldon Ulysses and Ethel (Rader) Cyrus. On June 1, 1947, he married the former Jeraldine Lucille Graves who preceded him in death on June 8, 2010. Surviving are their children, William L. (Donna Murray) Cyrus, Jr.; and Lisa Cyrus Fox, both of Chillicothe; three grandchildren, Tahaune Jo Cyrus; William L. "Trey" (Becca Burdett) Cyrus; and Clayton Andrew (Krysten Nerviano) Cyrus; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Lee Cyrus; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. William was an honorably discharged veteran, having served in the Navy during WWII, and then in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After obtaining a Master's Degree from the University of Dayton, William went on to work as a Civil Engineer at the Mead Paper Company. He was known as "1 of the 6 old men" at The Glades of Chillicothe; he even wrote a poem about it, which was published locally in town. He enjoyed poetry, photography, computers, but most of all, loved trying to outsmart the stock market. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Haller Funeral Home. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross County Veteran's Honor Guard will follow in Bobblett Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Thursday, September 3, from 6:00-8:00pm at Haller's. Damron, Samuel  
Samuel Damron, Jr. WAVERLY: Samuel Damron, Jr., 94, of Waverly, Ohio went to be with the Lord, September 2, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Damron, Sr. and Peggy (Ray) Damron of Wayne, WV; wife, Ruby (Carrico) Damron; son, Ronnie Gail Damron; son-in-law, George CE Helton; great-granddaughter, Paige Damron; and ten siblings. Sam is survived by his companion, Madge (Hitchcock) Blair of Waverly; daughters, Judy (Bill) Kitts of Chillicothe, Justine (George) Helton of Waverly, Judy (Brett) Driscol of Daytona Beach, FL, Karen (Sean) Logan of Findley, Ohio, sons, Donald Ray (Beverly) Damron of Georgetown, KY, Gary Lynn (Cynthia) Damron of Waverly, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren; sister, Molly Maynard, brothers, Orville Damron, Darrell Damron and Tommy Damron. Sam was Converted February 10, 1957 and Baptized by Elder Cully Damron and Elder Golden Ramey. Sam was ordained as a minister of the United Baptist Church in 1985. He was a member of the Beaver Valley Church, an assistant moderator at Beaver Valley and Poes Run Churches for several years. Sam Loved the church, he often got a "Spell on Him." Every Sunday morning you would see him going to church with a van load of whoever want to go, He Loved That. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 at the BOYER FUNERAL HOME in Waverly, Ohio with Elders Arvil Murray, Kaleb Blair, Jeff Conley, Roger Maynard and Charlie Barker, officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Union Cemetery, Denver Road, Waverly, Ohio. Dearth, Alice "Louise"  
Alice "Louise" Dearth SANDUSKY: Alice "Louise" Dearth, 85, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord Monday afternoon, August 31, 2015, surrounded by her family at Providence Care Center, Sandusky. Born on January 7, 1930, in Scott Depot, WV, she was the daughter of Ezra Norman and Katie Alma (Young) Holcomb. She had worked as a nurse at the Ohio Veterans Home for many years, before retiring. After retiring, Louise went on to drive a bus for the Cedar Point Amusement Park, the Miller Boat Line on Put-in-Bay, and later for the Parkvue Healthcare Center. In her earlier days, she was involved with her family in 4-H, the Girl Scouts and the Cub Scouts. She enjoyed traveling with family throughout the states, on cruises, and to Israel. Louise was a member of Faith Memorial Church where she felt it vital to support the many missionaries around the world and also enjoyed attending services at Providence. She was also active throughout the years with the Melody Makers, the Huron Playhouse, the Town and Country Theatre and the theatre at Firelands College. Louise is survived by her husband of 67 years, Stanley E. Dearth; her family, Cheryl Moats of Cincinnati, David Dearth of Columbus, Lorna (Dwight) Robbins of Milan and Dennis (Lisa) Dearth of Toledo; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Robbins, Justin (Rhonda) Moats, Meghan (Jody) Healey, Melanie and Kayla Robbins, Hannah, Jacob and Ethan Dearth; three great grandchildren, Mekay Coulter, Liam Logan and Hollis Moats and a great granddaughter on the way; two sisters, Carol (Paul) Priest of Kingston and Lena Kay Benson of Gulfport, FL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother in infancy, Delbert Ezra Holcomb and a sister, Daphna Lucille Clark. At her request, cremation will take place. Her family will receive friends on Thursday morning, September 3, 2015, from 11:30 am until time of the memorial service at 12:30 pm in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, South Campus Chapel, 1912 Hayes Avenue, Sandusky. Chaplain Mel Sayler is officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Huron Playhouse, P.O. Box 487, Huron, OH 44839 or to the Erie County Senior Center, 620 E. Detty, Betty  
Betty S. Detty CHILLICOTHE: Betty S. Detty, 64, of Chillicothe, died 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2015 in the Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center. She was born August 26, 1950 in Turkey Creek, KY to Clyde and Pluma Gillman Stotridge. On January 7, 1967, she married Norman Detty, Sr. who survives. Also surviving are children, Norman (Jennifer) Detty, Jr., of Columbus, Wayne Detty, of Chillicothe and Dorothy (Jeremy) Stout, of Frankfort; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Gene (Lorraine) Stotridge, Richard (Pat) Stotridge and Alvin (Tammy) Stotridge; and a sister, June (Jim) Claytor, all of Chillicothe. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Betty was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2015 in Lighthouse Baptist Church's West Campus, 341 Clinton Road, with Pastor Ryan Bevan officiating. Julia M. Giffin CIRCLEVILLE: Julia M. Giffin, 64, of Circleville passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015. She was born on March 5, 1951 in Chillicothe, OH to Ralph and Catherine (Bingmer) Boggs. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Giffin Sr.; daughter, Rhonda Rose; and by sister, Linda Mills. Julia is survived by her children, Kim Rowland, Billie Jo Giffin and William Giffin Jr.; nine grand and three great grandchildren; and by sisters, Kathy (David) Howell and Lisa Jenkins. Highland, John  
John Patrick Highland KETTERING: John Patrick Highland, 79, of Kettering, formerly of Chillicothe, died 1:06 pm, August 26, 2015, at Hospice of Dayton, following a brief illness. He was born November 17, 1935 in Chillicothe, to the late Walter H. and Charlotte (Bickel) Highland. On June 25, 1966 he married Joann Rinkliff, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Mary Kate and J. Patrick Highland II, both of Kettering. Mr. Highland was a nuclear physicist with The Mound. He was a US Navy veteran and a big Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Tuesday at St. Mary Church, Rev. Michael Hartge, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Calling hours will not be observed. Memorial contributions may be made to any Hospice program.
