Howard "Corky" Miller

CHILLICOTHE: Howard "Corky" Miller, 81, of Chillicothe, died 7:25 am, Friday, February 1, 2013, at Westmoreland Place Nursing Home, following an extended illness. He was born July 4, 1931 in Washington CH to the late Harry and Clarice Walden Miller.

Survivors include his children, Terry and Mark Miller, of Chillicothe and Mike Miller, of Cincinnati; a grandson, Christopher Miller, of Plantation, FL; a great-grandchild, Harper Miller; sisters, Jeannie Brooks, of Chillicothe and Joann Welch, of Xenia; a brother, Tim Miller, of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Ron Brooks Jr. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Miller Jr. and a brother-in-law, Ron Brooks.

Corky was a 1950 graduate of Unioto High School, a 1959 Graduate of Ohio University, and received his Masters Degree from Xavier University in 1964. He taught at Unioto, Mt. Sterling, Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe Elementary and was an Associate Professor at Ohio University-Chillicothe. He coached basketball at Mt. Sterling and Chillicothe High School, and football at Chillicothe High School. During his time at Ohio University-Chillicothe he coached basketball for 15 seasons with an overall record of 301-75 including 10 ORCC championships and 9 state championships. He coached men and women's tennis at OU-C with several state championships. He also coached baseball at OU-C. Corky was a US Navy Veteran. While in the Navy, he played basketball with the US Marines at Cherry Point, and baseball with the Navy. Corky also played for the Chillicothe Colts. He was an avid golfer.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Haller Funeral Home, Rev. Lawrence Hummer officiating. Military graveside services will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 1-3 and 6-8 pm Monday at Haller's.
