CHILLICOTHE: John H. Hughes, 84, of Chillicothe, died 6:30 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 in Westmoreland Place following an extended illness.

He was born April 13, 1928, in Ross County, to the late Howard and Lillian Bennett Hughes. On September 8, 1972, he married the former Delores Clark who survives; also surviving are a niece and nephews who he raised, Mary Beth Karr, Gregory Karr and Christopher (Tammy) Karr, all of Chillicothe; a nephew, Dan Doles; nieces, Karen and Angie Doles; grandnephews, Brian, Craig and Cole Karr; a grandniece, Annamarie Karr; a sister-in-law, Roma Doles; and a brother-in-law, Raymond (Patty) Clark, both of Londonderry.

He was predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Dean Vallery and Julia and George Karr and a brother-in-law, Frank Doles.

John served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Randolph Aircraft Carrier during World War II. He was a welder at the former WearEver Plant where he retired in 1990. John attended Trinity Lighthouse Church. He loved all animals and enjoyed daily strolls in Yoctangee Park and reading books. John was a loving faithful husband.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2012 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Chuck Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at Ware's from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
