Brenda Kay Smith McKee
The Guest Book is expired.
FRANKFURT: On Wednesday February 13, 2013, Brenda Kay Smith McKee, 63, left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior, and family members in heaven, winning the battle over diabetes.
She is now free of sickness and suffering. As she fought the disease she educated others about it and its effects. Her prayer was to prevent others from going through what she had to go through.
She was born January 15, 1950 in Greenfield to the late Boyd and Charlene Schrake Smith.
She met the love of her life during 4H camp at Tar Hollow, and married William A. McKee on August 17, 1969. Her husband especially appreciated that she was caring, loving, compassionate and an excellent listener. He truly enjoyed watching her as she used her artist gift in the field of cosmetology and hairdressing. Her gift, and her touch, made people look and feel good. She inspired both outward and inner beauty as she instilled confidence in those she served.
She had two children. Her son, W. Matthew (Megan) McKee, of Jackson, thanks everyone for their prayers, and realizes she is at peace and is no longer suffering. "God is good, and while I don't understand, I trust Him." Her daughter, Malea (John) Young, of Jackson, remembers her as an incredible woman, "stronger than I could ever have known. She spent Valentine's Day dancing on two feet with Jesus." Brenda also had three grandchildren, Mattylynn McKee, and Paige and Chloe Young, with two more on the way. Her sister Terry (Dennis) Wood, of Kingston, recalls when they were little, Brenda would get her pay check and immediately take her shopping. Her brother, Bryan (Marsha) Smith, of Chillicothe, is so proud of the beautiful family she has raised and recognized how she was a glowing example of being able to deal with what life presents. Brenda also leaves behind her precious service companion dog, Jessie, who was always at her side.
Brenda was extremely active. She was a member of Acts Believe Church and enjoyed reading, writing, playing cards, crafts, sewing, basket making and was especially fond of travels to the beach. She gave of her time as an EMT with Concord Twp. Fire and Rescue and with the Amputee Support Group. In fact, she was selfless as she prepared for death, and chose to make an anatomical gift to Wright State University, in hopes her gift would help others.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm May 4, 2013 in Tar Hollow State Park, at the Residence Camp Lodge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brenda K. McKee Memorial Fund, Homeland Credit Union, 25 Consumer Center Dr., Chillicothe, OH 45601. Her online memorial register is available at www.HallerFuneralHome.com.
