Catherine M. "Kate" Hannigan

CIRCLEVILLE: Catherine M. "Kate" Hannigan, 77 of Circleville, passed away September 6, 2013 surrounded by her children and loving family.

Kate was born October 30, 1935 in Chillicothe, to the late Lloyd and Mildred (Shoemaker) Uhrig. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Gordon Hannigan and by her cherished grandson, Chad Michael Hannigan.

Kate was a varsity cheerleader, class officer and Queen's Court Member of the 1956 graduating class of Huntington High School. She retired from Berger Hospital after holding positions with Clifton Motor Sales, Pickaway Gardens, Ullman's Flower Shop and Logan Elm High School. Kate held memberships with the Calvary United Methodist Church (where she routinely volunteered) and with The Order of the Eastern Star.

Kate's kind spirit and empathetic soul led to many friendships as she touched the lives of all who met her. Kate was an exceptional mother who nurtured the lives of her adoring children. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed a special relationship with her great grandchildren. Kate enjoyed finding and refinishing antiques with her late husband, collecting blown glass pumpkins, elephant figurines and various other antiques which she proudly displayed in her home. Kate was blessed with wonderful neighbors, friends and family who stopped by her home often for great "porch conversations."

Kate is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Jeff) Hamilton; and her sons, Bruce (Glenda) Hannigan, Brian (Ruthann) Hannigan and Randy (Bobbie Stonerock) Hannigan. Also surviving are Kate's grandchildren, Candace Stonerock, Heather (Asa) Holzschuh, Chelsea (Anthony) Dupler, Brandon Mahoney, Aaron Hannigan and Corey Hannigan; as well as her great grandchildren, Blake and Emily Holzschuh and siblings, Sandy Uhrig, Gail (Grover) Dresbach, Oscar (Sally) Uhrig, Neil (Joy) Uhrig and Mike (Vickie) Uhrig.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville, with Rev. Stephen J. Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Twin Twp. Cemetery, SR 50 Bourneville (Chillicothe). Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
