CHILLICOTHE: Darrell L. McGarvey, 64, of Chillicothe, died 2:30 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012 in the Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was born November 22, 1947, in Chillicothe, to the late James E. and Beulah M. Cooper McGarvey. On June 4, 1966, he married the former Janet E. Frazier who survives; also surviving are children, Beth A. (Victor) Polen, of Brighton, MI, Becky L. (Michael) Neighbors, of Chillicothe and Brandon L. (Jennifer) McGarvey, of Frankfort; grandchildren, Brittany A., Jaclyn D. and Zachary L. Polen, Bridgette R. and Brookelyn E. Neighbors and Bailey M. McGarvey; a brother, Jimmie (Marjorie) McGarvey, of Chillicothe; several nieces and nephews whom he was very close too; step mother, Margaret McGarvey, of Chillicothe; a step sister, Mary Ellen (Jack) Tackett, of Piketon; and step brothers, James (Diane) Reed, of South Point, OH, Don (Dee) Reed, of Marion, OH and Roy (Karen) Reed, of Augusta, GA.

He was predeceased by infant sons, Robert and twins, Brett and Brent; mother and step father, Beulah M. and William Reed; a brother, Richard "Dick" McGarvey; nephews, Johnny and Jeff McGarvey; father-in-law, Ira Frazier and mother-in-law, Mary Bobo Loy.

Darrell was an avid horseback rider, having ridden through several states and camped with family and friends. He and his wife owned and operated McGarvey's Western Shop. Darrell was well known and never met a stranger. He was a former 4-H advisor and was a member of the Mt. Logan Riding Club, Mt. Tabor Community Christian Church, F.O.E. Aeries 600, American Legion Post 757 and Operating Engineers Local #18. He was a former employee of Goodyear Tire and Rubber and D.E. Huddleston. Darrell retired from Leigh-Hanson following 30 years of service.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2012 in Mt. Tabor Community Christian Church with Rev. Rick Hartley officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
