CHILLICOTHE: Ernest A. Lucas, 92, of Chillicothe, died 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in the Ohio Veterans Home, Georgetown, Ohio following an extended illness.

He was born November 15, 1921, in Canaanville, Ohio to the late Perry and Lillie Darnell Lucas. On February 27, 1988, he married the former Suda Moneyhun who survives.

Also surviving are children, Joseph L. Lucas, David Paul Lucas, both of Chillicothe, Carol Ann Doles, of Forest, VA and John Lucas PhD, of England; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Leonard Lucas and Joseph Lucas, both of Athens; sisters, Martha Williams, of Worthington, OH, Sue Nichols, of Indiana and Mary, of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Ernest A. Lucas, Jr.; brothers, Cecil, Robert, Richard, Paul and Perry Jr.; sisters, Norma Jean and Phyllis; and two infant brothers.

Ernest retired from the U.S. Navy in 1961 following 22 years of service. He had served in World War II and the Korean War. In 1985, Ernest retired from the Chillicothe VAMC where he had worked as the Director of Social Services and Utilization Review and had also retired from the Adena Regional Medical Center following 15 years of service having worked as their Director of Social Services and Utilization Review. He was a member of N.A.S.W. and the Ohio Hospital Association of Social Workers.

Ernest was a member of Walnut Street United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 with Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veteran's Honor Guard. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the Church on Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
