John W. Hopper, Jr.

CHILLICOTHE: John W. Hopper, Jr., 65, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Wednesday evening, May 8, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born November 19, 1947 in Chillicothe, the son of John W. Sr., and Naomi Ruth (Bryan) Hopper. On December 20, 1997 he married Paula S. Reichelderfer who survives.

Also surviving is his former wife and the mother of their children, Gloria J. Remy, Chillicothe; a daughter, Tara Krider, Chillicothe; sons, John W. (Melissa) Hopper, III, Amanda, Adrian (Susan) Spires, Zanesville and Aaron Spires, Columbus; grandchildren, Ryan, Cory, Zack, Liberty, K'Lee, Andy, Anderson and Griffen; four great grandchildren; sisters, Pam (Tom) Smith, Becky Anderson and Ruth (Wes) Crowe; a brother, Jim B. Hopper, all of Chillicothe; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A 2004 graduate of Hocking College, John was an environmental services specialist with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, retiring in 2012. He also was an employee of Mead Paper with over 30 years of service. A U.S. Air Force veteran, John served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church, the American Bando Association and a founding member of the Chillicothe Harley Owners Group. He served as a Deputy Sheriff for Ross County and was an EMT for Harrison Township. John was a much loved foster dad.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Fred Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with military graveside services by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday.
