Roy E. Allen
WAVERLY: Roy E. Allen, 87, of Waverly, died 4:15 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015 in the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was born July 3, 1928, in Pike County, to the late Clem and Nellie Stewart Allen. On May 31, 1981, he married Dorothy M. Borland who died March 6, 2009.
He was predeceased by his former wife, Victoria Moore Crabtree, and mother of his children, daughters, Deborah L. (Dennis) Ramsey, Delores (Stevey) Steele and Joyce (Tony) Murray; and a son, Gail W. (Cheryl) Allen, all of Chillicothe; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant granddaughter; brothers, Earl R. and Robert H. Allen; and sisters, Mae Nichols, Mary Nichols, Janie Bandy and Pearl White.
Roy served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Roy was a member of VFW Post 108 where he had served as Chaplain and was active in the Buddy Poppy Sales. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 62 and AMVETS Post 4. He formerly attended Mt. Tabor Community Christian Church. Roy was a constructions worker.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Mitchell Salyers officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
