Stephen Ray Satterfield

BAINBRIDGE: Stephen Ray Satterfield, 63, of Bainbridge, OH passed away unexpectedly on February 15th, 2014.

Steve leaves behind his wife, Vicki of 42 years; son, Jeremy (Jennifer) Satterfield of Piketon, son, Ryan (Chelsea) Satterfield of Bainbridge; mother, Freda Satterfield of Bainbridge; mother-in-law, Betty VanGundy of Bainbridge; brother, Randy (Katie) Satterfield of Latham, sister, Phyllis (Michael) Anderson of Chillicothe, brother, Richard (Crystal) Satterfield of Bethel; and five loving grandsons, Luke, Grant, Zayne, Cade and Hudson Satterfield. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, John Satterfield and his father-in-law, Ancell VanGundy.

Steve was born on April 8th, 1950, in Mifflin Township, Pike County, Ohio to John and Freda Satterfield. He graduated from Western High School in Latham, Ohio in 1968, and married his sweetheart, Vicki VanGundy, in 1971. Steve retired from USEC in Piketon as a machinist and front line manager in 2001, after 26 years of service. He also served as a trustee for Benton Township. Steve was a long-time member of the Morgantown Church of Christ in Christian Union, where he served as an elder, and led the congregational singing for many years. After retiring, Steve enjoyed working on tractors, listening to bluegrass music, talking with the morning regulars at the Corner Market, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Steve had a heart to help others by using the talents and skills that God had given him, which he did tirelessly and without complaint.

It was not uncommon to hear Steve testify of his thankfulness to God, who saved him from a life of sin, and for the blessings that he was permitted in this life. He had a hope for a peace that would await him beyond this life, through Christ Jesus. His family is comforted by the testimony that he has left behind, and by the grace of God that has been extended to all mankind.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly, Ohio, on Tuesday, February the 18th. Funeral services for Steve will also be held at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home on Wednesday, February the 19th at 11:00 AM. Steve will be laid to rest at the Gardner Cemetery on Morgans Fork Road.
