Iris Mae Ward

BOURNEVILLE: Iris Mae Ward, 81, departed this life at 3:07pm, Saturday, June 28, 2014. She was born December 31, 1932, in Massieville to the late Ernest Marsh and Eva (Hatfield) Marsh Cottrill.

She is survived by her husband Charles Robert "Bob" Ward. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in November 2014. Also surviving are their children: Peggy (George) Kimberlin; Robert (Becky) Ward; and Pete (Suzy) Ward; grandchildren: Hannah (Josh) Wood, Abby (Chris) Shoemaker, Meggan Ward, Benjamin (Jennifer) Ward, Ian and Callie Ward; and great-grandchildren: Kieth Morgan and Zoe Wood. Also surviving is a sister-in-law Lois (Harry) Marsh; and step-brothers and sisters Bill (Judy) Cottrill and Donna (Frank) Hahn.

In addition to her parents, Iris was predeceased by her step-father Ray Cottrill; brothers Earl, Bill, Harry, and Ted Marsh; sisters Jeannette Sparks and Peggy Strawser; and step-brothers Dale, Cliff, Loren, and Everett Cottrill.

As an active member of her community, Iris was involved over many decades in causes very important to her life. She retired as an employee of Paint Valley local schools and went on to serve as a school board member for 28 years. She also served proudly in the Ross County Democratic Party. As an avid sports fan, Iris not only loved watching sports but also played and coached women's slow pitch softball for over 30 years, winning numerous championships. She enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, flower gardening, and family game nights. Iris was a graduate of Twin Rural High School, Class of 1952. She was member of Bourneville Christian Union Church where she served as treasurer of the Bourneville Faithfull's. As a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Iris will be missed dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, July 2, at the Bourneville Christian Union Church with Rev. David Maughmer officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8pm Tuesday at Haller Funeral Home.
