CLARKSBURG: George C. Skinner, 92, of Clarksburg OH, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2014 at 3:10p.m..
He was surrounded by his family. He was born on August 23, 1921 in Pickaway County near Clarksburg OH. George was the son of the late Glenn B. and Marie Miller Skinner. On June 25, 1949 he married the former Ruth Martin. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Vic (Diane), Val (Jill); and daughter, Van (Randy) DePoy. He leaves three grandchildren, Abby, Guy and Tori; great-granddaughter is expected soon. Sisters-in-law, Pat Martin and Marilyn Oliver also survive along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jay (Alda), John (Mildred); a sister, June (Pharo) Osborn; and many special nephews.
George graduated from Atlanta High School in 1939. Having moved from the Atlanta area, he became a member of the Clarksburg U.M. Church. He served on the Pickaway Soil and Water Conservation Board for many years. He helped found the Pickaway County Pork Council. Many fond memories were established by his connection with the Deercreek Zoning Committee.
George retired from farming after 80 years, going from the use of horses to modern machinery. However, his greatest love was farming with his brother John and his sons Vic and Val. He took great pleasure in watching his beloved grandchildren at their varied activities. A folding chair was standard equipment in the trunk of his car. Friendship was dear to George. He loved nothing better than visiting with his friends. The Atlanta Elevator and Frosties Bait Shop were two of his favorite stopping points.
Special thanks to the Hospice of Fayette County for its wonderful care - especially Dorothy, Emily, and Nancy. We are also thankful for Tammy and Sue's love and care. His lasting friendship with Robert Tanner will always be remembered. Thanks Robert.
A funeral service will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014 in the Clarksburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Jerry Caddell officiating. Burial will follow in New Holland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the Skinner family on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort.
