Kenneth Young

CHILLICOTHE: Kenneth Young, 82, of Chillicothe, passed away peacefully at 9:22 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 in the Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was born January 1, 1932, in Yellowbud, OH to the late Ellen Young. On July 9, 1954, he married the former Dorothea J. Mack who died July 9, 2013 on the loving couple's 59th wedding anniversary.

Surviving are children, Brenda (Melvin) Pritchard, of Chillicothe, Tina Young, of Columbus, David Young and Kenneth K. Young, both of Chillicothe, Jeffrey Young, of Circleville, Steven Young, of Chillicothe, Yvette (Terry) Tanner, of Galena, OH, Tanya Rosales, of Columbus, Kendra (Larry Fox) Young, of Chillicothe, Eric (Jennifer) Young, of Mt. Sterling and Danielle (Anthony) Carango, of Chillicothe; 38 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Diana (Terry) Hightower, of Michigan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Melvin Weaver and Bernard Woodard; and sisters, Blossom Woodard and Barbara Woodard; and grandparents Jerry and Alice (Redman) Young.

Kenneth served as a tank driver in the U.S. Marine Corps' First Tank Battalion during the Korean War. He earned the Korean Service Ribbon with three Battle Stars representing involvement in the battles at Bunker Hill, Pork Chop Hill and Panmunjom Hill, National Defense Service Ribbon and United Nations Ribbon and Medal. He retired from the City of Chillicothe where he had worked for 35 years. He was an equine enthusiast who loved to train standardbreds. Kenneth was a member of the former Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Bishop Melvin Maughmer and Pastor Skip Cousins officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Ware's from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
