WAVERLY: Anna Lea Dixon, 75, of West Second Street, Waverly, Ohio, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013.
She was born Anna Mills on February 20, 1937 in a small coal mining town near Logan, West Virginia to the late Roscoe and Laura Mills. She was the fifth of eight siblings who grew up in Inez, Kentucky. Although Ann's upbringing was very modest it was rich in love and faith. Ann was a bright and intelligent student and graduated as salutatorian of her high school class. On November 10, 1960, Ann married Jack Dixon of Waverly, Ohio.
Ann held office and management positions at a number of local businesses including General Telephone, Blakesly Lumber, First National Bank, Thompson Industries, and Southern Wood Piedmont. She retired from Mill's Pride in 1998. Ann was well liked and respected at all her jobs and still met with her good friends from the telephone company where she had worked more than 50 years ago.
Ann was a kind, humble, and generous woman who always thought of others before herself. She was a role model for how to live a selfless life. Most of all, Ann loved spending time with her family and treasured being a grandmother. After she retired, Ann enjoyed going on vacations with her sisters.
She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Jack; sons, Dan (Sally) and Galen (Tracy); grandsons, Sam and Taylor; granddaughters, Megan and Audrey; siblings, Clifford (Bertha), Shelby (Tom), Paige, and Roscoe; as well as her extended family, many dear friends including best friend, Carol Moore, and the congregation of the Canal Church of Christ in Waverly where she and Jack were active members.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by siblings: Delbert (Deloris), Tamsey (Joe), and Evelyn (Bill); and daughter-in-law, Tracy.
Ann's family would like to extend great thanks to Pearl Montgomery who was a friend and caregiver for Ann in recent years as well as Elizabeth Duke and Diane Derifield whose added care allowed Ann to remain at home after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
Family will receive friends from 4-8p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Botkin Funeral Home, 314 East North Street, Waverly, Ohio and from 1p.m. on Sunday, January 6 at the Canal Church of Christ. Funeral services will begin at 2p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Canal Church of Christ, 122 East North Street, Waverly, Ohio.
