As colorful threads weave together into the beauty of a tapestry, so were the many details of the life of Catherine Marie Miller Larson. She leaves behind a rich legacy of love, kindness and talent.
Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to Spiro and Dorothy Trombley Miller, she was their only daughter and the sister of Gregory Millar (aka Miller) deceased 2002.
Her heritage was that of Greek, Irish and French Canadian. She was a talented opera singer, musician and teacher in the Vancouver school system. Her students will long remember her for her talents, her patience, and the knowledge she shared.
Catherine received her BA in music and music composition from Mills College and her teaching certificate from UBC.
While she lived in California she met and married Melville R. Westenberg.
A daughter was born to them, Dorothy Ann Marie Westenberg (Meeks).
Catherine studied and performed opera singing all of her life in many places, such as Vancouver, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Kalamazoo, New York City and even White Rock. She spent several years in Tucson, Arizona, to be near her brother who was the music director/ conductor of the Tucson Symphony, and after her daughter married, she returned to Vancouver where she married Theodore W. Larson at the family home on Point Grey Road; they have resided in the Vancouver area for 35 years.
Catherine loved time with her family, cooking, teaching and singing for family and friends. She loved the beauty of nature and animals.
