Segers, Sybil (Whitaker) - Bonifay  
Mrs. Sybil Whitaker Segers, age 77, of Bonifay, passed away June 21, 2016 at her home. She was born April 7, 1939 in Bonifay, to the late Adolph Whitaker and Annie B. Pitts Whitaker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Segers was preceded in death by her husband, Joe C. Segers and two brothers, Wayne Whitaker and Hinson Whitaker. Mrs. Segers is survived by five children, Donna Segers of Bonifay, Ricky Segers and wife Penny of Bonifay, Ronnie Segers of Bonifay, Alan Segers and wife Eva of Enterprise, Alabama, Steven Segers and wife Tina of Bonifay; twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Charlotte Brown and husband Bobby of Slocomb, Alabama, Brenda Rowland and husband Junior of Aquone, North Carolina, Berneice Johnson and husband Johnny of Chipley; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2016 at New Smyrna Assembly of God Church with Rev. Michael Tadlock, Rev. Mitch Johnson and Rev. Genous Mayo officiating. Interment followed in the New Smyrna Church Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home directing. Family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at New Smyrna Church.

Sims, Irene (Jackson) - Marianna  
Irene Jackson Sims, 87, of Marianna passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016 following a long illness. Irene was born on Sept. 17, 1928, in Grand Ridge, to Robert and Lilla Priscilla Neel Jackson. After her mother passed away when Irene was a young child, she was raised in the Paront community by her Aunt Annie Neel Nobles, her mother's sister. When her father remarried, she was cared for by her loving stepmother, Leotean Tipton Jackson. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1946, and married the love of her life, Lester, on March 20, 1949. Together, Irene and Lester, ran Sims Store in the Elsie DeMond Heights area for many years before moving to a farm in the Sink Creek area where they reared their family of active boys. Irene worked in many locations throughout Marianna including, Production Credit Association, Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Jackson County Clerk of Court. Irene was a dedicated homemaker and was known by her family to be a wonderful cook. She prepared many delicious batches of fried chicken, sausage biscuits, and of course, satisfying hamburgers for a Saturday lunch that everyone looked forward to and enjoyed. She spent many summer evenings working with her husband to preserve, by canning and freezing, the bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables produced on the farm. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in many capacities over the years. Mrs. Sims is preceded in death by her husband, Lester A. Sims, brothers, Durward Jackson (Jeffie), Murray Jackson ( Pearl), Aubry Jackson (Mary Ella), Curtis Jackson (Jewel), Lebert Jackson (Betty), John Jackson. and a sister, Elma Sims (Bill). Irene is survived by her three sons, Mike Sims and wife, Sally; Danny Sims and wife, Pam, Alec Sims and wife, Keri all of Marianna, 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Sink Creek Cemetery with Bishop Mark Sims officiating. Interment was at Sink Creek Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family received friends at the home of Mike Sims, 1222 Hwy 71 in Marianna. Sloan Sr., Johnny J. - Cottondale  
Johnny J. Sloan, Sr., 86, of Cottondale, died Sunday, June 5, 2016 at The Signature Healthcare at the Courtyard in Marianna. Mr. Sloan was a long time resident of Cottondale, formerly of Auburndale. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Sloan. Survivors include his daughter, Debra Martin and husband, Larry of Huntsville, Alabama; son, Johnny Sloan Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Marianna; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at First Baptist Church Cemetery in Cottondale with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family received friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.
