Billy J. Howell, age 88, passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at his residence. He was born April 10, 1925 in Esto, to Alvin and Mittie Baggett Howell. Billy served his country faithfully in the United States Navy
and later retired from the Division of Forestry after 34 years of service.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Jimmy Hicks; one grandson, Derik Hicks; four brothers and two sisters.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Imogene Shiver Howell; five daughters, Cynthia Lowery and husband Phil of Donaldsonville, Ga, Dale Hulion of Ponce de Leon, Carolyn Hicks of Ponce de Leon, Joan Garner and husband Richard of Ponce de Leon and Lydia Santiago and husband Luis of Honolulu, Hawaii; one sister-in-law, Clarice Capps of Kinard; nine grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
A time of visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home beginning at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Larry McGowan and Brad Nobles officiating. Committal services followed at New Ponce de Leon Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers were his grandsons, Jim Jenkins, Gene Nobles, Brad Nobles, T.J.
