Mrs. Edna Smith McCormick, age 86, of Darlington passed away Feb. 13, 2013. She was born May 5, 1926 in Darlington, to Columbus and Ella Spears Smith. Mrs. McCormick was a lifelong resident of Darlington. She was Baptist by faith. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was known as always having a hot meal and a place to stay for those in need. She enjoyed gardening, and was a very talented cook. She was known for her famous collard greens.
Mrs. McCormick is preceded in death by her parents; her daughters, Mary Sue "Honey" McCormick and Minnie Sue McCormick; her son, James Edward "Gopher" McCormick and her siblings, Minnie Carroll, Sam Smith, Barney Smith, Dee Smith, Laney Adkinson, Fannie Bell Carroll and Nathan Smith.
Mrs. McCormick is survived by her three sons, Walter Clayton McCormick and wife Sonjia of Darlington, Willard McCormick of Darlington and Michael Dion McCormick and wife Jeanie of Black, Ala.; three daughters, Edna Ruth Verjinski and husband Gordon of DeFuniak Springs, Johnnie Mae "Dolly" McCormick of DeFuniak Springs and Sandra Jean McCormick of Dothan, Ala.; one brother, Walter Smith and wife Carletta of Darlington; 18 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
A time of visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry Smith and the Rev. Frank McIntosh officiating. Pallbearers were Heath McElveen, Clint McCormick, James Eric McCormick, Greg Parham, Troy Dupree and Michael McCormick. Floral arrangements are being accepted.
