Gene Barfield, 81 of Graceville passed away, Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Gene was born in Graceville on Sept. 29, 1931 to the late Edgar Charles and Minnie Lela Golden Barfield. A graduate of Graceville High School, Class of 1949, Mr. Gene attended the Baptist Bible Institute, now known as Baptist College of Florida. Gifted in piano and the bass guitar, Mr. Gene was a music minister and musician in various local churches over the past several years.

Preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Eva Brown, Olif Barfield, Jack Barfield, Delmos Barfield, Lela Mae Baggett, Edith Adams and Carl Barfield.
Survived by his beloved wife, Pat Barfield, Graceville; son, Olen Barfield and wife Gloria, Cottondale; daughter, Starla Dolihite and husband Brian, Navarre; nine grandchildren, Jenny, Jill, Jana, Judson, Joni, Julie, Ashley, Jacob and Abigail; three great grandchildren, Alexandria, Ian and Aries; two brothers, Lloyd Barfield and Clyde Barfield, Graceville; sister, Thelma Greer and husband Jim, Pittsboro, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Barfield and Annie Barfield and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013 at Damascus Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Jones officiating. Burial followed in church cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville directing. Family received friends at the church Sunday, from 1 p.m. until time of service.
