Rev. James Edward Sanders of Sheffield Drive, Bonifay, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, March 9, 2014. He was 82. Rev. Sanders was born Feb. 15, 1932, in Coffee County, Ala., to the late Daisey B. and Ada Mae Anderson Sanders. He served as a Baptist Minister in the local area for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. For many years he was a poultry farmer in the New Zion Community of Holmes County.
In addition to his parents his wife, Merle Martin Sanders and a son Michael J. Sanders preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, David W. Sanders and Haywood Sanders and wife Debra; daughter-in-law, Kathy Sanders, all of Bonifay; seven grandchildren, Mechelle (John) Broaddus, Chip (Julie) Sanders, Clay (Sierra) Sanders, Kristie (Steffen) Williams, Stephanie Allen, Chad Sanders and Delena (Andrew) Santoro; nine great-grandchildren, Malana, Xavier, Hazley, Tinsley, Khloe, Tessa, Page, Nathan and Callie and several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2014, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva. Burial followed in the New Zion Baptist Church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing. The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva, 334-684-9999, is in charge of arrangements.
