Merle Gray Ward, 91 of Quincy, went home to be with the Lord on April 18, 2014 at the Magnolia House in Quincy. Merle was born Nov. 5, 1922 in Chipley, to James Mitchell and Rittie (Daniels) Gray. A lifelong resident of the panhandle, she married her sweetheart, J.B. Ward on Dec. 14, 1944. She worked as a supervisor for Southern Bell for 39 years and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Chipley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Mitchell and Rittie (Daniels) Gray; husband, J.B. Ward; son, James Dwight Ward; sisters, Nora Peel, Cora Millspaugh, Mildred Kimbrough and Lois Sapp and brothers, James Gray and Louie Gray.
She is survived by her son, Randy Ward and wife Evelyn of Marianna; sister, Lorene Brock of St. Petersburg; sisters-in-law, Florene White and Joyce Kirkland both of Chipley; brother-in-law, Edward Walters of Graceville; daughter-in-law, Pat Ward of Bartow; grandchildren, Carissa Maul and husband Bob, Sabrina Ward, James Dyson and wife Joy, Andy Ward and Kendyl Ward; great grandchildren, Brett Roberts, Madison Maul, Nicholas Maul, Zander Dyson, Sebastian Dyson and Noelle Dyson and host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 21, 2014 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Chipley, with Dr. Mark Long officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment followed in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley in charge of arrangements.
