Roger Talmadge Fleming, age 63, passed away at his home in the Prosperity Community Tuesday, December 27, 2016. He was born June 2, 1953 in DeFuniak Springs to Talmadge and Ouida Holmes Fleming. Roger graduated from Ponce de Leon High School and was salutatorian of his 1971 class. He accomplished something very few students can boast, perfect attendance for all twelve years. Roger also excelled on the basketball court, and as a senior helped to lead his Pirate team to the state semi-finals under the direction of Coach Henry Ray Kent. Following graduation, he went on to play for Enterprise State Junior College on a basketball scholarship. He honorably served his country in the United States Army before beginning his career as a superintendent/consultant for an off-road construction company and was employed there for the past 40 years. He loved his Miami Dolphins, enjoyed the outdoors, but his true pleasure was spending time with his two granddaughters and family.
He is preceded in death by his father; his paternal grandparents, Jesse and Cleta Mae Fleming; and his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Virgia Holmes.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Shirley; one son, Jason Fleming of Prosperity; one daughter, Holly Messer; two granddaughters, Madison and Nevaeh all of DeFuniak Springs; mother Ouida Taylor and husband George of Prosperity; siblings, Ronald Fleming of Marianna, Rhonda Stafford and husband Wayne, Renee Ellis and husband Keith all of Prosperity, Steve Taylor and wife Tina, of Jacksonville, and Mike Taylor of Prosperity; numerous nieces and nephews and many long- time friends.
In honor of Roger's request, his family has chosen cremation with no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home and Crematory of DeFuniak Springs. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.daviswatkins.com
