Dorothy Dix Yates Ellis, age 88, of Bonifay, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at the Third Floor Long Term Care Unit in Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. She was born Dec. 19, 1922 to Bennett and Effie Jane White Yates in the part of Washington County known as Cow Ford located on Holmes Creek. Dorothy married the love of her life, William Benjamin 'Ben' Ellis on July 19, 1939. They owned and operated a Standard Oil Service Station in Bonifay for 14 plus years where Dorothy was the bookkeeper while raising two children. Many of her days were helping Ben on the family farm where they raised Black Angus cattle, chickens and in later year's hogs. Dorothy was very active in the Bonifay First Assembly of God Church where she faithfully served as a Sunday School Teacher and Secretary-Treasury for many years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ellis is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ben Ellis; 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
She is survived by a son Jerry Ellis and his wife, Darlous of Bonifay; daughter, Iris Wells and her husband, James of Bonifay; three granddaughters, Debbi Shores Earnest, Ayshia Ellis Hatcher and Tia Ellis Morris; six great-grandchildren that called her "Chicken Granny", Ben Earnest, Abby Earnest, Caroline Hatcher, Mary-Ellen Morris, Clark Morris and a new Baby Girl Morris.
Funeral services were held, Feb. 09, at Peel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeep Sullivan officiating. Interment followed in the Bonifay City Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay directing.
