It is with sadness that the family of Alexander Bruce Lyons (Deedee), announce his passing on December 5, 2014. Dad had just celebrated his 94th birthday. He was born in Rainy River, Ontario to Edward and Mary Jane Lyons. Alex grew up in Fort Frances, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army and spent time overseas, serving in England, France, Belgium and Germany, which he was very proud of. Always passing on his stories of the war to his family and friends. When Alex returned home from the war, he met and married his wife Dorothy Violet Fenton. Together they raised 3 children Robert Bruce Lyons, F. D. Edward Lyons and Debra Diane Mary Lyons. Moving to Port Arthur in 1956, Alex spent many years working in the Sheet Metal/Furnace area. Then working for the Department of National Defense at the Port Arthur Armoury and later transferring to the HMCS Griffon, where he worked until his retirement in 1985. Alex spent many summers travelling around Northwestern Ontario to Pow Wows, where he made the most delicious fried bread burgers, along with his wife Dorothy and his brother Ronald. The hamburgers had to have just the right amount of salt and pepper and had to be flipped just so. Alex is predeceased by his parents, Edward Lyons and Mary Jane Lyons (Sinclair), his wife Dorothy (Dot) Violet Lyons, his son Robert Bruce Lyons, two sisters Patricia Fenton and Beverly Frizado; brothers George, Richard, Leo, Edward, and Douglas. Alex is survived by: his son Edward (Margaret), his daughter Debra and his daughter-in-law Donna L. Lyons, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, brothers Ronald, Kenneth and Gary. Nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive. Cremation has taken place. As per Alex wishes there will be no service, the family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay or the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Laakso and the nurses and staff of 2C and 2B, of the TBRHSC for all their kindness and support.
