Corporal Anthony Joseph Boneca

Corporal Anthony Joseph Boneca of The Lake Superior Scottish Regiment gave his life for all Canadians while he was serving in Afghanistan. This brave soldier fell Sunday, July 9, 2006, just three weeks away from returning from his second tour with the Canadian Forces. Born on February 13, 1985, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Anthony attended St. Margaret's, Bishop Gallagher and St. Ignatius schools. In addition to his love for outdoor activities, Anthony was a serious Catholic Youth Leader, a Police Cadet and he was interested in many pursuits, always displaying a high level of personal achievement. Tony's four years in the Army Reserve earned him respect from all ranks. He was a popular soldier. Tony was often recognized by the ubiquitous football under his arm (he was a capable, high school quarterback). Other interests included a love of music - leading to guitar playing; paintball - leading to interest in the military; fishing - leading to frustration for his uncles. Cycling, skateboarding, skiing and swimming, any athletic activity, challenged Tony to his limits. Tony's greatest joy was participating in family celebrations. His presence will be missed dearly, but never forgotten. Tony will be sadly missed and forever embedded in the hearts of his parents, Antonio and Shirley Boneca. His military family will endure the loss of a special soldier. Harbourview Funeral Centre has been chosen as Tony's resting place and visitation times will extend from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2006, with Vigil Prayers offered at 7:00 p.m. all in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. St. Patrick's Cathedral, 211 South Archibald Street, will be the venue for the Funeral Mass with full military honours, celebrated by Father Gerald McDougall s.j. on Monday, July 17, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Following the Funeral Mass, interment will take place in Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or charity of your choice in Tony's memory."
