Mrs. Margaret Annie Forrest, age 100 years, a resident of Grandview Lodge, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2008. Margaret was born on May 20, 1907 to Charles and Jannetta (Henry) Gorrie. In the earlier years she worked as a cook in the bush camps. Her favourite pastime was camping and fishing at Mountain Lake with her husband Jim. She loved to bake and always had a pot of homemade soup to share with the many family and friends that were always welcomed. Margaret was known for her great sense of humour. Her many interests were dancing, playing cards, crossword puzzles and taking long walks. She will always be remembered for her lovely smile and her gentle peaceful and generous spirit. Survived by her daughter, Stella Backen, sons Stuart (Liz) Parker, Robert (Tere) Parker, B.C. , daughter-in-law Lena Parker, sisters, Muriel Steacy, B.C. and Victoria Johnson, grandchildren, Sandra Blackburn (Michael), Wayne (Soili) Couch, Tim Couch, Andrew (Kari) Backen, Cincinnati, David (Sandra) Parker, Theresa (John) Celmer, John (Kathy) Parker, Debbie (Kelly) Skabar, Diane Lillies (Jack), Karen Lawrence (John), Patricia Cooney, Audrey Stey, Sherry Tougas and Duane Parker, 30 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Charles and Jannetta Gorrie, first husband Walter Parker and second husband James C. Forrest, son Ernest Parker, step-son Frank Parker, brothers, Charles, Frank and Sydney, sisters; Jannetta and Gertrude, son-in-law Norman Backen and daughter-in-law Frances Parker. A Celebration of Margaret's Life will be held on Wednesday, January 30th at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street with Rev. David Silliman of Knox United Church presiding. Following a reception at the Sargent Family Reception Centre, interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret's memory to Grandview Lodge Auxiliary, Knox United Church, Shuniah Street or to a charity of one's choice.
