Ruth Elizabeth Wrightsell

1927 - 2018

Mrs. Ruth Wrightsell age 89 departed peacefully March 17th, 2018 at her residence in Roseview Manor.

Born August 5, 1927 in Coniston, Ontario – Ruth moved to Thunder Bay at an early age with her parents George and Elizabeth Gourley.

Mom was kind and compassionate, practicing selfless devotion to her friends and family.

She had laughter in her soul and loved music, especially in the last few years when she would regularly dance and sing with the many entertainers that played at Roseview.

At a young age, Ruth was a trailblazing entrepreneur when in 1952 she received certification from Dominion Chartered Customs House Brokers Association and opened Wrightsell Brokerage until it was sold. In 1969 she continued her education by taking evening classes at Lakehead University where she achieved her designation as a Registered Industrial Accountant (RIA). She then embarked on her 22 year career as an auditor with Revenue Canada.

In her pastime, she enjoyed competitive duplicate bridge and was a member of the Strathcona Ladies Golf Association, The Port Arthur Curling Club and Trinity Church where she was a regular contributor to their Desert of the Month fundraiser.

Ruth was predeceased by her brother George and sister Irene.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Cyril, her children Allan (Renee) Wrightsell, Dorothy (Brian) Christie, Bill (Tish) Wrightsell, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Our family is grateful for the care Mom received from the nurses and caregivers who tended to her during her past 3 years at Roseview Manor.

Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of Ruth's life at the Sargent and Son Reception Centre between 11am and 1pm, Fri., April 27th. Should you wish, donations can be made to Trinity United Church, the Thunder Bay Alzheimer Society or the charity of your choice.
