Kenneth Lloyd Morrison died peacefully on July 29, 2010 at age 86 after a short bout with cancer. Born in Arnprior, Ontario to the late Rev. H. Lloyd and Kathleen (Cowan) Morrison he is survived by his wife Jean (Case), daughters Peggy (Michael) Heller of Halifax, Susan (Michael) Di Tomaso of Toronto and Tanya (Peter Antonioni) Morrison of London UK, grandchildren Naomi, Paul, Gregory and Dylan, nieces Heather, Valerie, Michelle and Patricia, nephews David, Peter, Philip, George, Thomas and Robert, and sisters-in-law Sally Morrison, Sheila Case and Barbara Case. He was predeceased by brothers John and George and sister Louise Winch. After joining the Artillery in 1943, he took officers training in England, and received his commission as a lieutenant in 1945. Thanks to DVA, he completed his BA in 1948 and his MA in 1949, both in Political Science at the University of Toronto. After a stint as a trade unionist at Massey-Harris, he became a high school teacher in southern Ontario. In 1966 he moved his family from Ottawa to Port Arthur to become director of extension at Lakehead University. Subsequently he worked as a realtor and appraiser. Ken will be remembered for his extensive community involvement, including the Lakehead Unitarian Fellowship, the NDP, the Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society, and the Thunder Bay Arts Council. He took great pride in fundraising for the Thunder Bay Symphony. He delivered Meals-on-Wheels, visited shut-ins and recently became an active bridge player. He was a notable writer of letters to the editor, wrote for HighGrader Magazine, and shared his political and religious views through a widely distributed monthly "Family Letter". A great believer in the common good, Ken was grateful for the benefits of our publically-funded health care system, particularly during the last few months of his life. The family wishes to thank the excellent care received from Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Care, the CCAC, the VON, and the Hospice at St. Joseph's Hospital. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on August 10 in the Provincial Room, Prince Arthur Hotel. The family would appreciate donations to the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, the Northern Cancer Fund or the Lakehead Unitarian Fellowship (Ken Morrison Lecture Series).
