William Joseph Holland died Aug. 19, 2015, at his home. He was 89 years old.
He was predeceased by his wife Joan (nee O'Brien) Holland who passed away in January 2013. Mr. Holland was retired from the New York Stock Exchange where he worked for 45 years. Bill and Joan moved from Jericho, Long Island, New York, to Homosassa in 1989. They were active members of St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church in Homosassa, where he and Joan were members of the choir. Mr. Holland was born May 2, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York, second son of John and Anne (nee Gaffney) Holland. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Europe in the 70th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. Mr. Holland was the recipient of the Silver Star and two Purple Hearts. Mr. Holland was also an artist whose works were displayed locally.
He was also predeceased by his brother John E. Holland of Mountainside, New Jersey; and is survived by his brother James J. Holland of Morristown, New Jersey; as well as six nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, Florida. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, from St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Homosassa with Fr. Ronald Marecki, celebrant. Interment with military honors will commence at 11:30 a.m. at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. www.wilderfuneral.com
