Elsie Virginia (Mantels) Leamer, 93, of Homosassa, Fla., passed away Feb. 28, 2014.
She was born Sept. 16, 1920, to Ernst Otto and Mary Virginia Beasley Mantels in Franklin County, Mo. She graduated from St. Clair High School in 1936 and, after one year of College at Southwest Missouri State Teachers College, she taught six years in a one-room country school, attending college in the summers. She graduated from college in 1944 with majors in math and business. The next six years were spent as a math and business teacher and high school principal in St. Clair, Mo. She met her husband, Charles Franklin Leamer, at the Baptist Student Center of the University of Missouri in Columbia in the summer of 1949, and they were married at the First Baptist Church of St. Clair on June 3, 1950. Charles's work in industrial insurance moved them to many places, from California to New Jersey. When he retired, they moved to Oak Village in Sugarmill Woods. They were members of the First Baptist Church of Chassahowitzka for several years and then transferred to First Baptist Church of Crystal River. There, Elsie served the church in many ways, including cooking for "Meals on Wheels" and Wednesday night dinners. For many years, she also taught the Dorcas Sunday School class for the senior ladies.
She leaves to mourn her passing husband, Charles F. Leamer of Homosassa, Fla.; daughter, Barbara Andereck and husband David of Dublin, Ohio; sister Leona Jung of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandsons, Michael Andereck and wife Joy of Dublin, Ohio, and Jonathan Andereck of Nashville, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held at Fero Funeral Home, at noon Thursday with interment to follow at Fountains Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 until 6 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Citrus County, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464 in memory of Elsie.
