Eunice Phelps Benfield, 77, of Homosassa, died Monday, April 18, 2011, in Brooksville. Born April 29, 1933, in Cross City, FL, she was one of five children born to the late Thomas and India Phelps. She moved to Crystal River at a young age and graduated from Crystal River High School in 1951 and moved to Naples, FL, in 1958. She and her husband, Carter, owned and operated a retail furniture store until they retired. She returned to this area in 2010 from Naples. Eunice was a member of the North Naples Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carter Benfield in 2009; sister, Rosalee; brother, Edward; grandson, Kenny; and son-in-law, Ken. She is survived by her daughter, Ladonna and husband Jerry of Homosassa; sons, Michael and wife Cindy of Cape Coral and Patrick and wife Diane of Bushnell; stepchildren, Larry of Naples, James and wife Pam of Arcadia, Linda Roberts of Naples and Jeffrey and wife Tina of Inglis; brother, Ray Phelps; sister, Virginia Childress; 19 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa Springs. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Hodges Funeral Home, Naples, FL.
