Henry P. Karsen

Henry P. Karsen, 70, of Lecanto, Fla., passed away March 9, 2013, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County after a long battle with cancer.
A native of northern New Jersey, he was a member of the first graduating class of DePaul Catholic High School where he starred in football, basketball and baseball. After graduating from Tampa U he taught physical education, health and driver's education in New Jersey at Pequannock and Clifton High Schools. He coached many sports, but wrestling was his passion. He is a member of the Morris County Coaches Hall of Fame (NJ) and the DePaul Catholic Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a pioneer in the gym business, later opening North Jersey Nautilus and Wrestling Plus. He moved to Florida in 1997 where he was active in the Native Plant Society, Manatee Watch and Democratic Club. He also coached wrestling at Lecanto High School.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Karsen was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Sharon, who passed away in 2009. Mr. Karsen is survived by two sons, Henry and Keith; daughter-in-law, Maureen; three grandchildren, Kendra, Ryan and Reed Karsen; one brother, Ted; his fiancée, Ana Palmer.
Private cremation will take place under the direction of Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in Lecanto.
