Joanna Allen Miller, 87, of Homosassa, went to her heavenly home Nov. 10, 2012, under the loving care of HPH Hospice and the staff of Sugarmill Manor. Joanna was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Davidsville, Pa., to Le Roy and Nora (Boyer) Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred Smith Miller in 2005; brothers, Boyer, Edward, Dean and L.R., and sisters, Mildred Harrison, Noretta Pratt and Martha Jean Rishell. She is a graduate of Richland High School, Geistown, Pa., and Indiana State Teacher's College, Indiana, Pa. She taught music in Boswell, Pa., and Sarasota, Fla. Joanna was a harpist and vocalist. She began her harp training at age 12 at the Camden, Maine harp colony of master harpist, Carlos Salzedo. While living in Sarasota, she played with the Sarasota Symphony. She was a soloist and sang with many church choirs.
Jo, as she was known, is survived by her sons, Roger Allen Miller, Inglis and Fred Smith Miller II, Antioch, Calif.; grandchildren, Josan (Dana) Banke, Danville, Calif.; Russell Miller, Las Vegas, Nev.; and Brad Miller, Antioch, Calif.; great grandchildren, Sara, Caitlin, Christian, and Kiersten Banke, Danville, Calif.; sister-in-law Ruth (Chuck) Flack. Ocala; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Homosassa.
A celebration of life will be 4 p.m., Dec. 5, 2012, at First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be sent to HPH Hospice or the First United Methodist Church of Homosassa.
