The Service of Remembrance for Mrs. Olga Husowitz Sorensen , age 85, of Lecanto, Florida, will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Stephen Lane officiating. Interment will follow at Fountains Memorial Park, Homosassa, Florida. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 Friday at the Homosassa Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial donations to Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, P.O. Box 641270 Beverly Hills, FL 34464. She was born April 27, 1930 in Frackville, PA, daughter of Andrew and Justina (Varonka) Husowitz. She died January 5, 2016 in Lecanto. She worked as a private secretary for such firms as Goldsmith Brothers of New York, Fairchild Engine Division of Long Island, NY and Southside Hospital in Bayshore, NY. Mrs. Sorensen was an active 20 year member of Faith Lutheran Church, Lecanto, where she was in the choir, Alter Guild, and Ladies of Faith. She helped make Chrismons for tree decorations and book covers for pew directories. Olga made many crafts for their homes in Lecanto and Bohemia, NY. While in New York she belonged to the Islip Ladies Auxiliary and East Islip Homemakers Association making clothes and gifts for children of Suffolk County. Olga loved to travel and spent most of their retirement traveling by car, train and cruise ships.
Mrs. Sorensen was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers: Andrew Husowitz, Jr., Stephen Husowitz, and Nicholas Husowech, and 2 sisters: Anne Notto and Tessie Morosine. Survivors include husband of 61 years, Robert H. Sorensen, Sr. of Lecanto, FL, son, Robert H. (Jean) Sorensen, Jr. of Herndon, VA, daughter, Kathleen J. (James) McGarrigle of New Port Richey, FL, 2 brothers: Peter (Lois) Husowitz of Bethlehem, PA, brother, John (Betty) Husowitz of Lecanto, FL, 5 grandchildren, Kristina, Philip, Robert, Amy and Thomas, 5 Great Grandchildren,. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hooper Funeral Homes & Crematory.
