Richard N. "Dick" Hynds(1930 - 2013)

Richard N. "Dick" Hynds, 82, of Homosassa, passed away Jan. 2, 2013, at Hospice House, Lecanto. A native of Batavia, N.Y., he was born May 28, 1930 to Kenneth and Irene (Spahn) Hynds, one of seven children. Mr. Hynds was a retired lieutenant with the Hollywood Police Dept., Hollywood, Fla., with 30 years of service. Dick, as he was known to many, was a volunteer for the Citrus County Sheriff's office in the Community Watch Division and also was Santa Claus for many Citrus County organizations at Christmas since moving here 13 years ago from Hollywood. He was a member of F & AM Springs Masonic Lodge #378 and the B.P.O.E. West Citrus Elks Lodge #2693. Mr. Hynds was a veteran of the New York National Guard as a second lieutenant and honorably discharged in 1960.
Dick is survived by his wife of 47 years, Arliss Hynds, Homosassa; son, Michael Hynds (wife Sharon), Hollywood; daughter, Lynn Craig (husband Clyde), Homosassa; son, Rick Hynds (wife Trang), Scottsdale, Ariz.; three brothers, Gene Hynds, Ponce Inlet; Bruce Hynds, Lady Lake, and Ken Hynds, W. Senenca, N.Y.; sisters, Carolyn Hinman, Melbourne, and Gayle Grandits, Arcade, N.Y.; grandchildren, Todd, Kayde, Megan, Janna and Allison; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Aaron, Christian, Felicia and Trent; and his beloved dog, Pretty. Mr. Hynds was preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne Stortz.
Funeral Service of Remembrance will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2012 from the First Presbyterian Church of Crystal River, 1501 S.E. Hwy. 19, Crystal River, FL 34429. Interment will be private.
