Everett Hammock Wilcox, 95, of Crystal River, formerly of Clearwater, passed away April 14, 2014. He was born June 26, 1918, to Charles and Ruth Wilcox and was a member of a local pioneer family.

He was a graduate of Clearwater High School and the University of Florida, where he was a president of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and a member of the ROTC. During World War II, he served throughout Europe, commanding a Field Artillery Battery, Fifth Armored Division, rising to the rank of major and earning a Bronze Star (C) and two Purple Hearts. He co-founded and operated Wilcox Brothers Nursery in Anona for over 25 years and was a teacher at Pinellas Vocational Institute. He was a member of The First United Methodist Churches of Clearwater and Crystal River.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Alice "Doug" Wilson and daughter Ruth Ann. He is survived by his children, Everett Jr. (Jan Pomerantz), Barbara Fricke (Fred); eight grandchildren, Fleming Ford Teifer (Ken), Jamie Roop (Angela), Ashley Roop, Joshua Roop, Alexis Wilcox Nadi (Omar), Merrill Wilcox, Sarah Sugarman (Brendan Jordan), Rebecca Sugarman (Greg Brazzle); and six great-grandchildren, Isabella Stender, Danielle Teifer, Everett and Nora Nadi, Marshall Brazzle and Benjamin Jordan. He is also survived by brother George Ronald; sister Mary Rogers; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation followed by a brief service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at Moss Feaster Funeral Home in Dunedin followed by a military interment at Clearwater Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Key Training Center in Crystal River or UPARC in Clearwater.
