John Paul Meckstroth, 64, passed away Jan. 25, 2014, in Florida. He was born to the late Dr. Paul and Mary Meckstroth on June 29, 1949, in Bryan, Ohio. John graduated from Bryan High School, Bryan, Ohio, in 1967. He loved participating in all sports and outdoor activities: golf, baseball, basketball, football, skiing, hunting, fishing and trapping. John especially loved cooking and collecting cookbooks.
After attending Ohio State University, John pursued a profession as a golf teaching professional. He worked at Orchard Hills C.C., Bryan, Ohio, Firestone C.C., Akron, Ohio, and Quail Ridge C.C., Delray, Fla. John left the golf profession for a short time to work as marketing manager and regional VP for Petro Lewis Securities Co. He returned to his love of golf from 1988 to the present as a golf instructor for the Original Golf School, later known as the Jay Morelli Golf School in Crystal River, Fla., and Mount Snow, Vt.
John is survived by one brother, Don Meckstroth of Meredith, N.H.; two sisters, Diane Meckstroth of Buena Vista, Colo., and Jane (Steve) Miller of Bryan, Ohio; longtime girlfriend, Michele Smith of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three nephews, Scott (Suzi) Meckstroth of Ventura, Calif., Ryan (Andrea) Miller of Bryan, Ohio, and Derek Miller of Columbus, Ohio; and one niece, Amy (Shad) Blakey of Eagle, Colo.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Strickland Funeral Home, Crystal River, Fla. A service will be held at a later date to be determined in Bryan. Ohio. Memorials may be made to The at
