Joseph J. Baumeister, 92, Homosassa, Fla., died Nov. 13, 2012, at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Joseph was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Pittston, Pa., to the late Joseph A. and Mary (Doran) Baumeister. Joseph served our country proudly in the United States Army and was part of the D-Day invasion. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star during his service career. Joseph was employed by Western Electric and was active in the Telephone Pioneers. He traveled extensively with his wife and lived in several states and in Iran. He enjoyed golfing, sailing and playing bridge; was a voracious reader and a stained-glass artist.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Nedra E. Baumeister; his children, Matthew (Elizabeth) Baumeister, Jacksonville and Nora (Joseph) Matus, Bethesda, Md.; and four grandchildren, Andrew and Gabrielle Matus and Jackson and Anna Baumeister. He was preceded in death by all of his siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at St. Benedict's Catholic Church. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Citrus County, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464 or Key Training Center in lieu of flowers. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory is in charge of arrangements. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.
