Carlyle "Carl" Orr Obituary
Carlyle "Carl" Orr, 86 of Pine Ridge, Beverly Hills, who had been ailing for some time, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday December 21, 2016. He was born in Saint Catherine, Jamaica on April 22, 1929 and was the son of Pastor Cyrenius Orr and Mrs. Gladys Orr, nee Bowen, of Kingston, Jamaica, both of whom predeceased him. He was married to Gwendoline "Gwen" Jamieson of Westmoreland, Jamaica.
In 1965 they migrated from Jamaica to Canada and lived in Mississauga, Ontario. In 1981 Carlyle and his family moved to Florida to enjoy the benefits of living in a warmer climate, residing first in Margate, and subsequently in Delray Beach. During that period Carlyle worked with First Union Bank which later became Wells Fargo Bank. In 1992 he retired from that bank. He attended Boca Raton Baptist Church of which he was a member and usher, and where he was in charge of that church's AWANA, an international evangelical Christian program, the mission of which is to help "reach kids, equip leaders and change the world for God."
In 2007 Carlyle and his wife moved to Pine Ridge in Beverly Hills. He loved sports and in particular football. He also enjoyed playing board games, the chief of which was dominoes. At the time of his death he was a member of First Baptist Church of Crystal River, where he had served as an usher and had been involved in that church's AWANA.
Carlyle will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father. In addition to Gwen, his wife of 52 years, those left to mourn his passing include a daughter, Dionne, sons, Barry and Jason, three brothers, Chester, Coleridge and Anthony "Tony," three sisters, Norma, Lois and Flavia, loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
A Thanksgiving Service for the life of Carlyle will be held at First Baptist Church of Crystal River on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. Receiving of friends will take place from 1:00pm till 4:00pm. Private cremation will take place under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory of Crystal River.
