Charles Billings Obituary
Charles L. Billings, born in Lima, Ohio, in 1933 went suddenly to be with his Lord, Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at age 83 during a short stay at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness, FL.
His parents, Grant and Avah (Maus) Billings of Westminster, Ohio preceded him in death. Charlie, first married Mary C. (Stephens), the mother of his children in 1954. Mary lost her life in 1982. In 1984 he married Rebecca (Becky Thiesing) Billings who survives in Lecanto, FL.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger Billings and Gary Billings; sisters, Donna (Don) Swaney and Patricia (Chet) Eley.
Charlie also leaves a wonderful family: Jeffery (Lori) Billings of Harrod, OH, Bruce Billings of Lima, OH, Barbara (William) Preston of Alger, OH and Brian G. (Sue) Billings of Easley, SC Charlie was fond and proud of his fourteen grandchildren: Jalon (Mark) Martin, Alex (Kristin) Billings, Cheyenne (Mitchell) Mellano, Cassie Billings, Sarah (Ryan) Snider, Bethany (Joel) Moiser, Jenna (Corbin) Ellison, Shannon(Chris) Dotson, Tara Preston, Brittany (Tyler) Craig, Kylee (Justin) Prater, Rachael (Ronnie) Suber, Christine (Tyler) Hall and Michelle (Sam) Johnson. Charlie cherished all eighteen of his great grandchildren and was eagerly waiting to see three more great grandchildren before the end of this year. He is also survived by a sister, Gloria Jean (John) Gossard, and sisters in law, Shirley Billings, Jeanette Kidd and many precious nieces and nephews.
Charlie was a member of Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church in Lecanto, L and formerly a member of Auglazie Bible Church in Harrod, OH. Charlie treasured the Bible and belonged to several Bible study groups.
Because of his love for children, he tutored Pre K at Rock Crusher Elementary School in Homosassa, FL. Many years he worked with Cub Scouts, Christian Camp, and on the school boards of Allen East School, Apollo Vocational and Career Center in OH and the Child Developmental Center at Memorial Hospital in Lima, OH. He was on the board of WTGN Christian Radio in Lima and served on his church board many years.
Charlie happily served the USA Armed Forces in Europe 1954 to 1956. Much of his lifetime he worked with the Allen County Republicans and participated in Allen County Farm Bureau.
His favorite hobby was planting a garden. Charlie retired from Nationwide Insurance Agency in Westminster, OH. Most of all, he desired everyone would experience the joy of knowing Christ as Savior as he had discovered through God's Word.
Private cremation will take place under the direction of Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in Lecanto, FL. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church in Lecanto, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church Mission Work.
