Charles Hohl Obituary
Charles Robert Hohl, age 91, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2016 in Beverly Hills, FL.
Charles is survived by his wife Mary of 68 years, his sons Wayne and Larry, his eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and his sister Aleta Heineman. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Roger and Brion.
Charles was born on June 17, 1925 in Long Green, MD to Henry and Reta Hohl. In 1940, he joined the armed forces at the age of 16 and was recognized for service at a young age in the book "America's Youngest Warriors – Volume 3".
Charlie is a veteran of World War II, where he earned several medals including the Purple Heart. He served three years with distinction in the 4th Armored Division as a Sherman Tank Driver and Gunner, including action on Omaha Beach in the Normandy Invasion. He was wounded in the Ardennes Forest in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge and evacuated to England in December 1944. In 2015 he was recognized by the Government of France with the French Legion of Honor for his participation in the Liberation of France.
The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest. His success in business as a petroleum distributor for Amoco can be directly attributed to his work ethic, his attention to detail and his natural business acumen. Charlie retired in 1983, traveling with his wife Mary and eventually relocating to Pine Ridge FL. He will be interred in a family plot Long Green, MD.
In lieu of flowers donations should made to Hospice House of Citrus County 3350 W Audubon Park Path, Lecanto FL 34461.
