Dominick DiVito Obituary
Dominick Mario DiVito, age 85, of Floral City, FL passed away at his residence on January 17, 2017. Dominick was born on November 18, 1931 in Irvington, N.J. to the late Giuseppe and Lucia (Mancini) DiVito.
He was a sanitation worker for the City of St. Petersburg for 16 years before retiring and relocating to Citrus County in 1986. Dominick was a devout Catholic and was a parishoner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness.
He had immense faith in the Lord and always lifted his loved ones up in prayer, and prayed before every meal. In his spare time, Dominick enjoyed playing Bingo, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and working Crosswords and other puzzles.
He was incredibly smart, excellent with numbers and never needed the use of a dictionary. Dominick also loved his Italian dinners and eating pasta. He had a huge heart and was an incredibly kind and caring man who was affectionately known as the "Gentle Giant" by his family and friends.
In 2016, the last year of his life, he was a member of the FFRA and participated in the Special Olympics as the oldest contestant to participate in all of the chapters. His participation in Special Olympics was a life changing event for Dominick as it allowed him to make many new friends and acquaintances.
Those left to mourn Dominick's passing and cherish his memory are his loving niece and caregiver Yvonne Bryant and her husband Roy of Floral City, FL; great niece, Joline Bryant and her daughter Ziona who resided with Dominick in Floral City, FL; great niece, Yvette Bryant, her significant other Maleek and their son Ian of Ocala, FL; great nephew, Kyle Bryant, his fiance' Jamie Lynn and their twin sons, Jaden and Kaden; and one brother, JoJo DiVito of Whiting, New Jersey, Claudette VonderHeyde and her family and Catherine DiSanto and her family. He also leaves nieces and nephews, to numberous to mention, all across the United States. In addition to his parents, Dominick was preceded in death by brothers: Peter Divito, Joseph Di Santo, Leo Di Santo, Phillip DiVito; sisters, Ann DiVito, Minnie Monchio, Angelina Sirrianm, Nancy Milewsky and Antoinette Taylor.
Dominick's family will receive friends in visitation on Monday, January 23, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL. A Funeral Mass is planned for the following day on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 10:00 AM from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness, FL with Father Tim Cummings, Celebrant. Dominick will be laid to rest with his parent's at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, N.J. at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
