Donald Joseph Wirth, husband of Barbara Wirth of Tampa, FL, and father of Derek Wirth of Bedminster, P., and Brian Wirth of Heathrow, FL, went home to be with our Lord in Heaven on January 20, 2016. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 12708 N. Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa, FL 33618 on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 10:00 am. The family will host a luncheon immediately following the funeral Mass at University Village, 22nd Street, Tampa, FL 33612. Burial services will be at Bushnell National Cemetery, Bushnell FL, Friday, February 19th at 11:00 am.
Born on September 5, 1928, in Buffalo, New York, Don was the son of the late Katherine (Merkle) and Joseph Wirth. Don is survived by his loving wife, Barbara of 61 years, two children, Derek Wirth and his wife Lynn, Brian Wirth and his wife Lois; his 7 grandchildren Jillian, Rachel, Mariel, Laura, Carlen, Derek Jr., and Bridgette Ann and his great grandson, Jude; his sister, Patricia Dorris and the rest of his family and friends.
Don served in the United States Armed Forces during the Korean War. After proudly serving his country, Don returned to the Buffalo, NY area where he met and married Barbara (Lachner) Wirth and together they raised two sons, Derek and Brian. Don worked for the State of New York as a Public Environmentalist and was a member of the Schwaben Men's Chorus, Knights of Columbus, and order of Elks of Homosassa, Fl. Upon retirement, he and Barbara moved to Homosassa Springs, FL and lived there for 22 years before recently moving to University Village in Tampa, FL.
