Donald "Don" Sifers Obituary
On July 21, 2017 Donald Sifers, know as Don of Homosassa, Florida, passed away after a long battle with declining health. Don was a avid bowler, who bowled the first of his
3 perfect 300 games at the age of 74. After battling and overcoming prostate cancer. Don was born on March 24th, 1932 in McVeigh, Kentucky, the son of James Franklin Sifers and Corsie Jean Russell, he was the youngest of 6 children. Don was a retired government employee, who served in the United States Army from 9/9/1952 to 9/8/1954. Don enjoyed traveling through out the country with his family and friends. Eventually visiting 49 of the
50 U.S. states.
Don will be missed by his family and many friends not only for the spirit and courage he showed in his battle to overcome cancer, but also for his quick wit and sense of humor. While lacking extensive formal education, his self taught skills served him well in his years of employment at the military base (Fort Myer) in Arlington, Virginia were he worked for 28 years. Don was generous with his time his mechanical and also his home repairs and maintenance skills. He was often called upon by friends and family for help with repairs. Don and his wife retired to Homosassa, Florida in January of 1990. Don was devoted to his loving wife, Phyllis Dunn Sifers to whom he was married to for 53 years he leaves behind his wife Phyllis, his daughter Diane and son-in-law Roger Logsdon, also his son Michael and daughter-in-law Janet and two grandsons Ethan and Cory. His daughter and son have cherished the memories of vacations spent with their dad and their trip across the United States with him during their youth. .
A celebration of his life will take place Thursday July 27th 10:00am at Strickland Funeral Home in Crystal River. A reception will follow at the Manatee Lanes bowling alley in Crystal River.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his name to Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast P.O. Box 641270 Beverly Hills, Florida 34464.
Arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home and Crematory Crystal River.
