Doris W. Townsend, 82 of Crystal River, passed away Sunday January 15, 2017 at her home. She was born January 6, 1935 in Palmdale, FL and came to Crystal River as a child. She was the daughter of the late Lulu Effie Hewitt and W.L. Townsend. She was a life-long resident of the area and was of the Baptist faith. She was retired from the Citrus County School System.

In her younger years she was the Crystal River High School homecoming Queen in 1950. She enjoyed school sports and played on the girls basketball team. She was happy outdoors and loved hunting, horseback riding and fishing. She also farmed and raised cattle. She was a very outgoing and loving person, her children meant the world to her and she would do anything for them. In 1998 she married Richard Barchard and he considered her to be the love of his life. They were very close and enjoyed many years together until his recent passing.
